Staff augmentation · Backend engineering

A backend built to evolve. More resilience when failures happen.

VRInstruments (VRAIn) develops technology for 3D bioimage visualization and analysis using virtual reality and artificial intelligence. MyTaskPanel helped strengthen the project’s engineering capacity and address its architecture and backend needs.

01 / The challenge

Move the product forward without letting backend capacity become a bottleneck.

VRAIn had a virtual-reality platform for viewing ultrasound images. The team faced a substantial backlog of backend development tasks but lacked the in-house capacity to tackle them at the required pace.

The client turned to staff augmentation to add engineering capacity, address pending work and keep the product evolving.

The challenge was not only to deliver more software, but also to handle potential service failures effectively.

Technical requirements

01

Specialist capacity

Expand the team with engineers capable of taking on pending backend work.

02

Independent components

Prevent an issue in the sensor-facing service from disrupting the main application.

03

Incident handling

Detect service failures and provide a way to restore operations.

02 / Our contribution

From technical assessment to an architecture designed to recover.

The solution described in the original case study combines technical assessment, separation of concerns and monitoring of an auxiliary service connected to sensors.

01 · Assessment

Understand the system

We assessed the system’s complexity and defined how to respond to potential execution failures.

02 · Architecture

Separate components

We isolated the main application from the secondary component communicating with sensors.

03 · Continuity

Monitor and recover

We added a third application that detects incidents and restores the service without interrupting the main application.

Outcome: service recovery following failures without stopping the main application.According to the original case study, testing showed that the monitoring service detected issues and restored operations within seconds.
